DRESS CODE - Blue jeans and Black Tshirt/Sweatshirt. To maintain uniformity and for pictures, it would be good if everyone is dressed alike !!
PLEASE NOTE: if you do not have a black Tshirt simply show us that you like us on facebook and follow us on Instagram and we will give your child a free Tshirt on April 6th or April 7th.
How is your practice going ? Were you able to bump up the number of sheets you are doing ?? This week we have been doing a lot of call out Mentals.. Try a few on your own.

TIP 6: Try to improve speed. You can do so by trying to read the next question while writing the current answer down. For higher levels while doing multiplication or division, Try to not draw buckets or boxes, or writing on top, calculate fast in your head. Also, Division does not have remainders in the competition, in the competition you can try to make an educated guess on what the last digit will be.

REMEMBER - from previous emails - WRITE NEAT used a sharpened pencil. in practice there are still a lot of kids writing in a way we cant read. BRING 4 SHARPENED PENCILS WITH YOU. Mechanical pencils don't work very well. They break very often and you spend time re-filling it.

Also don't forget the Fours and Nines. and Ones and sevens. They look very alike when you write. Try not join the four up on top, that might be better.

Hello Hello !! How are you guys doing ! Hope your practice is going in full speed.  Try to get 1-2 more sheets done everyday than what you were doing last week. Remember last week to bump up the practice. 
TIP 5:
Solve the question as you see it.. WHETHER you are solving mentally or on the abacus, Don't waste time in applying logic that we use in school  (e.g. scanning through the question and looking for + 4 and -4, or trying to find groups of 10) Any logic you apply will only slow you down. 
If you are supposed to use abacus and you try to apply logic you may even be disqualified. Just read the question and solve in the order the numbers appear.

Greetings from Brain-O-Magic !! Hope you are having fun practicing !!

SPECIAL NOTE :
TIMESLOTS HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED FOR THE ONLINE COMPETITION AND INPERSON COMPETION BASED ON COMPETITION LEVEL.  PLEASE CHECK eventcreate.com/e/bomcomp2024 for the schedule and what time you need to come and leave. Registration and Pick up times are only 15 min please be sure to be on time WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCOMODATE IF YOU ARE LATE.

Remember no one knows what they can do till they try. Each child is already a Winner !!
TIP 4:  SPEED and ACCURACY is the key. You can go in any order and skip any part you want.  Each row/column may have a different type of question. Each type can be considered  a section. Try starting the set with different sections or solving in different orders and see which one works best for you 
You can Time each section of the paper that has a different kind of question separately and see which section is the fastest to determine which order you should do the questions.

BONUS TIP - Try to write fast and neat the first time. TRY not to use an ERASER, you can write over a number or it might be faster to do the next question.

Final Week of practice ! Time to ramp up the practice and go all in.

STUDENTS DOING THE COMPETITION ONLINE - REMEMBER THERE IS A TECHNICAL SETUP CHECK THIS SATURDAY THE 30TH

WHAT IS CHANGING-

1) Increased number of children allowed in each slot.

2) SEPARATE CALL OUT practice sessions . L3 and above students need to sign up for call out practice as a different session. PLEASE be considerate and give everyone a chance. PLEASE sign up for only ONE call out session and you can join if more slots are open on that day.

3)Increased online sessions instead of in-person since a lot of kids have spring break this week. REMEMBER YOU CAN AND SHOULD PRACTICE ON YOUR OWN AS WELL. YOU DONT NEED TO RELY ON PRACTICE SESSIONS.
Once again..We hope you are saving all the sheets that the kids are working on for the BEST EFFORT TROPHY!

REMINDER OF CANCELLATION CHARGE :
We would really like all kids to be able to take advantage of the practice sessions. To be fair to everyone.. .We request you to please cancel by midnight the previous day if you are not able to make it to the session.
We will be invoicing you a $5 NO SHOW charge if you do not cancel your sign up by midnight the day before the practice. ( Last week we had several kids saying they did not get a spot to register and at the same time kids who registered did not show up. )
Please email competition@brainomagic.com if you are unable to sign up to the existing session (if it gets full) or unable to make it to any sessions due to schedule. We will try our best to accommodate you.

1) TECH SETUP CHECK SESSION FOR KIDS PARTICIPATING IN ONLINE COMPETITION SETUP HAS BEEN EMAILED.

TIP3: Repetition can be useful when practicing call out mentals. L3 and above have a mentals call out portion in the competition. When you play the you tube video to practice and get an answer wrong, feel free to stop and repeat question or try the question on the abacus to figure out where you went wrong. However be sure to re-run at original speed again once you have figured out what you missed.
Remember to practice calling out questions for your child. USE timer to see how slow or fast you are going. Try to do MINIMUM of 15 min of Mentals and 3 sheets a day. REMEMBER there is always someone practicing more.

Everyone has a lot going on but Try to give Brain-o-magic priority for these next few days.

Dear Parents,
Thank you for registering for the 2024 Online Brain-O-Magic competition.

As you know, the online kids will be competing with in-person kids and every second and every question counts. So to be fair, we will need to follow time very closely and unfortunately will not have any room to accommodate or give any extra time for technical issues.

Therefore, we want to give an opportunity for everyone to test their setup and do a practice run before the competition day. We will be testing on Saturday, March 30. And we will follow this same exact setup on Saturday, April 6.

Timing is based on Competition Level.

You will need the following:
1) 2 cameras so we can see the child working and the screen the child is looking at. A laptop that can focus on the paper and another device (maybe a phone that shows screen or surrounding)
2) Good internet connection to log into zoom
3) Access to printer. The sheet will be sent to you at the time of your timeslot
4) RED PEN to CROSS OUT any questions that are not done
5) Access to WhatsApp
6) Access to goformative website for mentals call out section

FORMAT
a) Paper will be sent on ZOOM chat once your time slot starts.
b) You will have 5 mins to print the paper and write your child's name on the paper
c) 7.5 min timer will start exactly 5 min after sheet is sent on ZOOM chat.
d) As soon is timer is over you will be required to put pencils down and cross out questions not done with a RED PEN. Example will be shown in practice sessions.
e) The answer sheets will need to be sent by WhatsApp to +1-626-375-3307 within 5 min of competition ending and while we are on zoom. Any submissions after 5 min will be disqualified.

Please reply to this email and confirm that you will be able to join the test run. You will need make sure that you have a printer and two cameras available. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Let the countdown begin... 14 days left !!




TIP2: WRITE NEAT WRITE FAST . It is important to make sure people grading are able to understand numbers.
Please make sure number fits in space provided NOT OUTSIDE the box. The graders use a stencil and cannot see anything written outside the box. If you need to change answer its better to write over instead of crossing out and writing somewhere else.

Also 4 and  9s look similar. and 1 and 7 looks similar, 0s and 6s looks similar. Try to not join top of 4. Try to draw only straight line for the 1  like I. Be careful where your lines connect for 0.  

As always - Practice is the key.. REMEMBER the most important person you are competing against is YOURSELF. Are you getting BETTER ?

What a wonderful first week of practice. All sessions were full and the kids did an awesome job ! You have made a great choice. You will be receiving emails from us periodically with tips for practice. Please be sure to visit bomcomp2024.vercel.app/emails to make sure you have not missed any emails.
TIP 1:  No one knows what they can do till they try !!!   Practice is the key to amazing results. DO NOT RELY SOLELY ON PRACTICE SESSIONS AND TEACHER ASSIGNED HW FOR PRACTICE.  
You have infinite amount of practice sets.  Please practice ON YOUR OWN As well AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.  
Remember :
a) Competition has 2 parts written sheet and call out mentals .Call out mentals is only for L3 and above.
b) Each Written set is 100 questions higher level includes 50 mentals and 50 multiplication and/or division in same set.
c) Kids dont need to finish ALL 100 questions. Time spent on each SET is 7.5 minutes only. So 4 sheets/sets a day is around 30 min. You need to grade the sheets are write score but you DO NOT need to redo the wrong questions again.

We hope everyone has started working on Competition practice sheets. With one full month left until April 6th, let's make the most of our time by practicing as much as we can.

REMINDER : Practice Session start TODAY.  
MOST SLOTS ARE FULL, SO IF YOU HAVE SIGNED UP PLEASE DO COME FOR PRACTICE SESSION.
IF YOU WOULD REALLY LIKE TO COME FOR A PARTICULAR TIME AND ITS FULL PLEASE LET US KNOW.
PLEASE BE SURE TO BRING PRACTICE BOOKLET OR PRINTED SHEETS TO PRACTICE IN CLASS. IT IS RECOMMENDED TO HAVE ATLEAST 5 SHEETS READY.

In the spirit of encouraging dedication and hard work, we are excited to announce BEST EFFORTS CHALLENGE TROPHY THIS YEAR AGAIN!!!
PLEASE READ THE ENTRY RULES AND DETAILS:
Each set has 100 questions.
- Count all the valid SETS done on or after 3/1/2024
- A Link will be sent to enter count of SETS on April 5th morning where you will enter count of sheets done by your child DUE by 6 PM sharp. Link will be disabled at 6PM and entry will not be considered.
- Top 10 students that have highest number of SETS will get a CALL . Please be sure to keep phone on and available. We will be calling on the phone number entered in form.
- Submit the SETS on April 6th in the center. We will make sure SETS are valid and count is correct.
- Top 5 students will Receive trophy on the day of competition. THIS IS NOT BY LEVEL THIS IS PURELY BASED ON NUMBER OF 7.5 MIN SETS
Valid Set- A set is considered valid if:
- The set is completed between 3/1/24 and 4/6/24. It should have DATE and TIME printed on the top.
- The set should be graded and has the score on TOP right.

Special Instructions:
- Some questions may have negative answers. Children can ignore those questions.
- The actual competition will NOT have negative answers for Level 5 and below.
- Level 4 and up have 2 sheets per set. All levels should have 100 questions for each set.
- Children can solve in any order and skip any questions they like, the goal is to get the most number of correct questions.
- Children might not be able to finish 100 questions… that is OK!! The goal is to try to improve as much as possible.

You should have or will receive instructions regarding how to collect a booklet for competition practice from your teacher. You can also print sheets or the same booklet by going to the link - https://bomcomp2024.vercel.app/practice

Please click on the link corresponding to the competition level assigned in this email to get the correct practice sheets. The PDF called "printed booklet with answers" is the PDF version of the booklet that will be given. You can use this to get the answer keys or print the PDF sheets if you have not yet received the booklet.

There are some additional PDFs for extra practice. Each PDF Consists of 35 Sets. Each set should be worked on for exactly 7.5 minutes.
In case your child needs any more practice sheets, please contact us and we will be more than happy to provide more.

There is no better way to have your child step out of their comfort zone and reach new heights compared to the Brain-O-Magic competition.
You will be amazed at how much your child's performance improves with practice. And there is no better motivation than competition. Every participant gets a well deserved trophy for all the practice they put in. Everyone is a Winner.
Besides that, every level has three prizes and students from all over the country will participate.
This will be followed by 3 hours of fun time at Golfland including mini-golf, laser tag, laser maze, bumper cars, arcade and more before the prize distribution.
